What precautions should be taken when using a kinesiology tape?

The Kinesiology Tapes, with its elastic support feature, has become a practical tool for preventing and recovering from sports injuries. Only by mastering the correct usage method can its protective effect be fully exerted.

Before use, basic preparations should be made. Clean the skin of the bonding area with 75% alcohol to remove grease and sweat, ensuring a firm bond. Cut the tape according to your needs. Use a 5 cm wide brace to support the muscle and a 7.5 cm wide brace to fix the joint. Trim the corners to be round to avoid curling.


The application methods for different parts have their own emphases. When using the calf muscle tape, keep the muscle in a slightly contracted state. Apply it in a spiral shape from the ankle to the knee with a tension of 70%. Fix both ends without tension for 10 cm. For knee joint protection, use the "X" attachment method, aligning the center with the patella and extending the four tails towards the thigh and calf, with no wrinkles at the intersection.


The usage time should be reasonably controlled. During exercise, the application should last for 6 to 8 hours. For daily rehabilitation, it should not exceed 24 hours. Do not wear it while sleeping to prevent allergic reactions. When removing it, gently tear it off in the direction of hair growth. For sensitive skin, apply moisturizing lotion first to reduce irritation.


Use it with caution in special circumstances. Do not apply the Kinesiology Tapes on broken skin or eczema. Diabetic patients with poor peripheral circulation should consult a doctor before use. If redness, swelling or itching occurs after use, remove it immediately and clean the skin. Regularly replace the tape to ensure its adhesion and elasticity are in the best condition.
